Work in Development
Overview
One day I was helping my dad rip out kitchen cabinets and sinks. The next, he was diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer and given six months to live. My father, Rev. Al Landes, served as a hospital chaplain—a man of God who prayed for the sick and gave people hope.
My dad loved old Western movies. Gun Smoke, Wagon Train, and John Wayne. This video installation unfolds in a space in time, inside my dad’s living room—horses, cowboys, and Indians raging in battle as cancer cells float in the air. A raging war of the Wild West is juxtaposed with my father’s fight for his life.

This is a conceptual prototype for Cowboys and Cancer—an early immersive study exploring how the work might function in space. It is not a final rendering, but part of the evolving development process.
